Secret Song Club presents Parson Jones x Kyra Gordon x Barbed Wire Valentine

April 16 @ 7:00 pm

Join us for a songwriter showcase featuring soulful indie rock from Parson Jones, classic Americana from Kyra Gordon and classic guitar rock from Richard Strick and Barbed Wire Valentine! We kick off the party at 7:00 with an open mic followed by the featured acts. Free entry, donations welcomed.

If you wandered into a Kyra Gordon show, you’d be struck by the powerful vocals, deft touch on the keyboard, and command of the room. Watching her perform original songs with disarmingly personal lyrics, punctuated with spoken tales from her extensive travels, you’d feel the conviction of a singer, songwriter, and storyteller with a firm grasp of her creative voice, an artist who has arrived. Her debut album ‘Soul Of A Showgirl’ received national airplay and charted #1 on the RMR’s top 50 Americana Albums in Aug ‘22. On the heels of her seventh national house concert tour her sophomore release ‘Traveler’ has gotten rave reviews with coverage by top international outlets including EARMILK, AMERICANA HIGHWAYS, MUSIC CROWNS, LOCK and FAME. The indie artist continues to build a following with her boundless sonic range; blending alternative country, blues, folk, and rock elements.

Parson Jones is the project of Northern California musician/producer @kerryconlanmusic . Kerry describes the project as nostalgic indie soul/pop/rock, inspired by everything from Khruangbin and Son Little to Curtis Mayfield and Motown, and too many more to list. In 2014, Parson Jones released the single “Make and Model” on French label Underdog Records, which has since passed 6 million plays on Spotify. In 2019, Parson Jones released an album, “Clear As Day”, which was reviewed in Rolling Stone France (3.5 stars!).

Barbed Wire Valentine is a 3-piece rock band led by Singer-Songwriter/Guitarist Richard Strick. Holding down the rhythm section is Erik Bredt on bass guitar and the very talented multi/ instrumentalist Andrew Shakleford on drums and back up vocals. The band does original material that blends multiple rock styles from the present and past. Richard grew up in Northern California listening to motown and soul music. At around age 20, Richard was inspired by Bob Dylan, knew he wanted to write songs, and bought a guitar. Since then he has written countless songs, mostly about the complexities and subtle poetry of life. Richards’ other early influences beyond Soul and Dylan are Moby Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service, guitarists Gary Duncan, John Cipollina, Steven Stills, and Jimi Hendrix. The band is dedicated to doing only original material for the most part, Richard says “it’s mostly because of my tendency to simply murder covers” But the reality is that Richards’ songs are all about the lyrics and his lyrics are his message. The group came together through a series of chance encounters at music events and open mics all over Sonoma, Lake and Napa counties.
