DESCRIPTION:Before there was Jazz Mafia\, there was Cannonball—a genre-bending ensemble that lit up the Bay Area scene in the late ’90s and early 2000s with a fearless blend of Soul Jazz\, Hip-Hop\, Funk\, and Freestyle. Originally launched in Sonoma County in 1997\, Cannonball began as a tribute to the music of Cannonball Adderley but quickly evolved into something all its own—fusing live improvisation\, turntables\, freestyle rap\, and hard-hitting grooves into an electrifying live experience. \nThis special reunion brings together original members for the first time in over a decade\, including Dublin (raps)\, DJ Aspect (turntables)\, Adam Theis (trombone)\, Rita Thies (sax & flute)\, Marcus Urani (keys)\, Jason Thwaites (guitar)\, Ryan Newman (bass)\, and Paul Spina (drums)—plus special surprise guests. Many of these musicians went on to form or perform with renowned groups like Jazz Mafia\, Groundation\, Shotgun Wedding Quintet\, and beyond. \nMembers of Cannonball—and the greater Jazz Mafia family—have since collaborated with legends like Bob Weir\, Mickey Hart\, Lyrics Born\, Blackalicious\, Les Claypool\, and Roy Ayers\, but Cannonball was where much of the story began. After the inaugural 12 city run throughout 7 states\, True Justice\, Vocab Slick and Z-Man realized this independent “rap vacation” could be a platform not only for established acts but for up and coming talent who have never been on tour before.
