DESCRIPTION:The Gypsy Trio\, Northern California’s\npremier hot club jazz band\, announced today their North Bay Music Award win\nand their Northern California press tour beginning. The band is available for gigs\nand interviews on Gypsy Jazz as an artform ~ the history and its revival ~ through the\nconcert season.\nWith nearly 5\,000 votes cast\, the 2013 Bohemian’s North Bay Music Awards (Norbays)\npresented awards to Northern California’s top talent. The Gypsy Trio won in the\nJazz category\, receiving the Gold Record award this summer.\n“We have hit a sweet spot here with Gypsy Jazz\,” said Scherer.\n“Everyone in the band has played the gamut of musical styles – from Rock to Latin & Salsa and then Classic\nJazz\, so Gypsy Jazz was an interesting new challenge for us to stretch our musicality\,” said Scherer.\n“The timing couldn’t be better with the genre regaining popularity. It’s combination of the\nsophisticated harmony of Jazz with rhythms and unique enthusiasm appeals to\na contemporary audience.” \nAbout the Gypsy Trio\nFormed in 2011 in Sonoma County\, The Gypsy Trio\, consists of the best musicians the\narea has to offer. Ian Scherer\, Emily Froberg\, and bassist Trevor Kinsel. The Chemistry of The Gypsy Trio is greater than the sum of its parts. The\ntwo guitars “weave” back and forth switching between lead and rhythm guitar and\, at times\,\nplay the same part\, but always in perfect juxtaposed harmony; the bass alone holds\ndown the bottom rhythm. Together\, the relatively new band has played numerous venues\nincluding KJZY’s after work concert series\, Gualala Jazz Festival\, Faifax festival\, and many others.
